Responsible Travel Strategies
At Predator Ridge, we are more than just a premier destination; we are stewards of the incredible land that we are so lucky to call home and focused on delivering an experience that is as high in quality as it is sustainable. We continue to build sustainability practices into every facet of our operations and grow our commitment to preserving the integrity of our local ecology and responsible tourism for a promise of a greener future.
Our Sustainable Strategies
Conservation of Natural Resources
Predator Ridge operates with a deep commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the Okanagan. We implement water conservation measures, including the use of drought-resistant plants and the integration of a water reclamation system for irrigation.
Sustainable Land Use
The development plans of Predator Ridge include the preservation of green spaces, with over 50% of the resort’s land left undeveloped. This careful planning ensures that the natural habitat and biodiversity are maintained. We also offer our guests access to over 35km of multi-use trails, connecting with another 40km’s of trails within Ellison Provincial Park.
Green Building Practices
Incorporating sustainable building practices, Predator Ridge constructs new buildings and renovations with energy efficiency in mind, using materials and technologies that reduce the environmental impact and enhance sustainability.
Eco-friendly Irrigation
Utilizing a fully sustainable irrigation system, the fairways on our golf courses are maintained with 100% recycled effluent water, reducing the reliance on fresh water sources and preventing wastewater from being released into the lake.
Waste Reduction Initiatives
There is a strong focus on recycling and composting programs throughout the resort to minimize waste. Predator Ridge also encourages guests to participate in these programs to lessen their travel footprint. Within our guest rooms, we offer refillable amenities to minimize the reliance on single-use disposables, enhancing our commitment to a sustainable guest experience.
Local and Sustainable Sourcing
Throughout our food & beverage experience, we prioritize locally sourced and seasonal ingredients, supporting local agriculture and reducing carbon emissions associated with food transport.
Community Engagement and Education
Through our programming within our community, Predator Ridge collaborates with residents to host educational talks and events on sustainability and environmental stewardship.
Promotion of Active and Low-Impact Transportation
Guests are encouraged to explore the resort and its surroundings by foot, e-bike, or using electric golf carts, which significantly lowers vehicle emissions. We also offer a variety of electric vehicle charging stations throughout our resort.
Energy Conservation
The resort uses energy-efficient appliances, thermostats, and lighting, to encourage guests to conserve energy during their stay.
Support for Local Businesses
By partnering and holding onsite events with local vendors, artisans, and wineries, Predator Ridge fosters economic growth within the community and allows guests to have an authentic and sustainable travel experience. .
Sustainable Tourism Policies
Predator Ridge has established policies that align with sustainable tourism goals, including protecting wildlife, and investing in infrastructure that reduces the environmental impact of tourism. We are EcoFund Verified, which holds us accountable as we measure and reduce our carbon footprint based on international standards and best practices. Instead of simply offsetting our emissions, we are actively working to cut down our consumption of fossil fuels, waste and water, by investing in more efficient technologies and tracking our reductions. In support of these efforts, we have added a nominal EcoFee, which is held in a dedicated EcoFund.
Commitment to Safety and Wildfire Prevention
Recognizing the importance of safety and the increasing risks of wildfires in the region, we enact stringent smoking bans throughout the property to mitigate the chance of fire ignition. Complementing these preventive measures, we have invested in the Sensenet Wildfire Detection System, an advanced technology designed to detect and locate wildfires in their infancy, allowing for rapid response to protect the property and its natural surroundings. Furthermore, Predator Ridge actively supports Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) at the local Fire Station #3 located within our community.
We believe that sustainable travel is the future of tourism. By integrating these practices into every aspect of our operations, we’re not only providing our guests with a high-quality experience but also ensuring that the Okanagan remains a beautiful, thriving destination for generations to come. Join us in our commitment to a greener future and experience the difference that responsible tourism can make.
