Predator Ridge Becomes The First Residential & Resort Community To Invest In SenseNet For Enhanced Wildfire Safety

Predator Ridge is thrilled to announce its groundbreaking investment in SenseNet, becoming the first residential & resort community in Canada to enhance its wildfire safety measures with this cutting-edge solution.

Based in Vancouver, BC – SenseNet is a technology that offers rapid wildfire detection capabilities, safeguarding critical infrastructure and valuable properties in high-risk areas.

As part of a two-year pilot project initiated in August 2022, the City of Vernon in cooperation with Vernon Fire Rescue Services, SenseNet, the Government of Canada, Innovate BC, and Rider Ventures, has been installing a network of sensors, gateways, and cameras in areas prone to wildfires, creating a protective fire detection perimeter around the city. Predator Ridge, one of the pilot’s test sites, has had the opportunity to evaluate its effectiveness in detecting early signs of fire.

Throughout the pilot, the SenseNet technology has undergone extensive testing, consistently demonstrating remarkable accuracy and speed in providing real-time data essential for emergency response and public safety.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services Chief David Lind emphasizes the importance of early detection in fire management, stating, “when we get fuel mitigation and early detection right, and have an adequate response, the fires typically go out while they are still manageable. Early detection is also key for moving people out of the way when fast moving fires do occur. These tests will provide for system validation, in a controlled setting, and for fine tuning as needed.”

With this new investment, in 2024, Predator Ridge will see over 100 sensors, 5 gateways and 5 cameras installed providing a comprehensive network of safety around the entire perimeter of our community.

Key benefits of implementing SenseNet technology at Predator Ridge include:

  • Early Wildfire Detection: SensorNodes detect the earliest signs of wildfires using gas sensing and thermal imaging, providing crucial time for response.
  • 24/7 Monitoring: The system will be monitored and managed through Vernon Fire Rescue Services and Emergency Management, offering real-time fire information and enhancing early fire detection for quick incident response.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Wildfire Detection Cameras provide a 360-degree view with AI-driven smoke detection, ensuring comprehensive protection.
  • Data-Driven Response: The Wildfire Detection & Management Platform integrates AI with data from sensors, cameras, satellites, and weather inputs for rapid detection and predictive analysis of wildfire behavior.
  • Community-Wide Safety: Implementing SenseNet across Predator Ridge ensures a blanket of safety, protecting the entire community from the threat of wildfires.

SenseNet CEO Hamed Noori explains, “Our proven solution is unique in the world in terms of detection speed and accuracy and can detect fires even in their smoldering phases when there is no flame or smoke signature.”

He adds, “Our technology is a tool; the real champions are the forward-thinking leaders and fire departments who utilize these tools to enhance their capabilities in this new era of increasingly severe wildfires.

Predator Ridge’s investment in our technology underscores their commitment to community safety and innovation. This collaboration between Predator Ridge, Vernon Fire Rescue Services, and SenseNet is a groundbreaking approach to wildfire safety. It’s not just about early detection; it’s about creating a comprehensive system for prevention, management, and potentially integrating solutions for extinguishing fires.

Predator Ridge is famous for its dedication to safety and quality of life, and this initiative is further proof of its leadership in protecting their community against the threat of wildfires. Together, we’re setting a new benchmark for how communities and fire departments can work to enhance wildfire safety and management.”

Brad Pelletier, Senior VP of Predator Ridge, affirms, “Investing in SenseNet technology is a testament to our commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents. We are setting a new standard in residential safety by proactively addressing the growing threat of wildfires in our region.”

This investment in SenseNet technology in concert with our resident driven Community Safety Committee and our existing infrastructure of safety measures, truly makes Predator Ridge one of the safest places to live in Canada.
