JUNE 2020

A NOTE FROM BRAD PELLETIER

Dear Valued Homeowners & Members,

With June now upon us, we are delighted to welcome back more of our normal lifestyle here at Predator Ridge.  As of today, our golf courses are now open for public play, we are opening our accommodations, our racquet club is now open for drop-in play and we are transitioning our dining back to Range Lounge & Grill, as well as opening our outdoor patio.

As we enter this second phase of our reopening, we want to assure you that we are taking the same careful approach as we did in our closing a few months ago.  Our strategy is a built around a controlled and measured approach to managing our business. We will be opening slowly and we will be mitigating risks by managing volume levels.  It's definitely not business as usual, but with everything that we learned over the last few months, we feel confident that we can safely deliver a guest experience that benefits us all.

We are also excited to start to welcome back many of the programs that you have grown to love over the years including Music on the Patio, Friday Night Flights and more.  We put a lot of thought into what we did for you during our closing and we are putting even more thought, time and strategy behind our careful reopening. Stay tuned for more details on what's happening throughout your community over the next few weeks.

On behalf of the entire Predator Ridge team, I want to sincerely thank you for your support and loyalty over the last few months.  You continue to motivate our entire team and it is truly amazing to see our community come through such a tough time even stronger!

Sincerely,

Brad Pelletier
Senior Vice-President, Okanagan

Homeowner Golf Cart Usage

Dear Homeowner,

We are sending this as a reminder to those of you who have a personal use cart, or are considering buying one. As an organization we have been very vocal and at the forefront with government dialogues to allow appropriate cart usage in communities like Predator Ridge. We also recognize the significant safety and associated financial risk associated with both resort and personal use carts.

The purpose of this information is to educate you on vehicle requirements and operation in BC. A few key things to note:

  • Usage guidelines are set out by the provincial government.
  • Predator Ridge roads are public.
  • “Policing” is done according to municipal bylaws.

Predator Ridge’s focus is cart use on the golf course lands or any usage involving resort guests. We will follow up on any issue that involve our rental fleet of carts. Please contact us at (250) 503-3588 if you see anyone using our cart in an unsafe manner. We ask homeowner to model and encourage appropriate private cart use at all times. Should a problem arise Strata councils, The City of Vernon bylaw department or the RCMP are also avenues for resolution.

There are two types of cart vehicles:

  1. Golf Carts. Golf Carts are not permitted on roadways and highways outside of approved areas. Use of Golf Carts on public roads is illegal.
  2. Neighbourhood Zero Emissions Vehicles. Often referred to as Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) or Neighbourhood Golf Carts, NSEV’s are permitted on roads where the speed limit does not exceed 40 km/h. NOTE: All speed limits within Predator Ridge for all vehicles, including carts is 30 km/h.

All Neighbourhood Zero Emission Vehicles must have 2 - 4 seats, a steering wheel, service brakes and parking or emergency brakes, a rear-view mirror, a horn, good quality tires, day time running lights, turn signals and brake light, reflectors and seatbelts. They are subject to the same rules and regulations as motor vehicles and must:

  • Be insured through ICBC
  • Have a permit issued by the municipality
  • Be operated by a licensed driver
  • Not carry passengers under 9 years of age
  • Only be operated during daylight hours and when the roads are free of ice, snow and slush
  • Not exceed a 32 km/h speed rating (20 MPH)

NOTE: Drivers will not be covered for road accidents that cause injury or property damage. We ask that all cart drivers access and use the paths that are provided. You are permitted to cross a public road to access paths. Please be very aware of pedestrians, pets and cyclists, all of which have the right of way.

Insurance
It is the responsibility of each homeowner to insure their personal cart.

Use on the Golf Course Lands
Personal golf carts are permitted for use on Predator Ridge’s two golf courses, provided you are registered to play golf at that particular time. Sightseeing later in the afternoon, while yielding to golfers, is permitted provided you are not interfering with the golf experience in any way. Unregistered use of the golf course is forbidden, even if you have an active membership. If you are wanting to play, please contact The Shop in advance, as we must account for every player on course.

Speed Restrictions
The Predator Ridge fleet carts are set to operate at a maximum speed of 19 km/h. There are a number of personal carts which are capable of speeds up to 50 km/h. The speed limit is 30 km/h throughout Predator Ridge for all vehicles.

Passengers
A standard golf cart is designed for up to two passengers. Others are made for four and six passengers. It is in everyone’s best interest to ensure that we do not exceed the number of passengers the cart was designed for.

Underage Usage
Predator Ridge’s cart fleet requires every user to sign a waiver for liability and responsibility and that the operator is at least eighteen years of age with a valid drivers’ license. The BC government requires that the operator possesses a valid driver’s license.

Cart use is expanding as our community and the resort grows. These guidelines will become more and more important to make sure we are incident free and maintain the relaxed lifestyle we have all come to love.

Regards,

Rod Cochrane
General Manager, Resort

Members Corner

Following direction from our public health authorities, we do not feel that it is appropriate to host shotgun events where large groups of people all arrive around the same time. Until our government softens their position on large group outings, we have decided that all members' day shotguns will be cancelled for the 2020 season.

Normally, we host two shotguns each Wednesday. One at 8:00am and the second at 2:00pm. Each shotgun is blocked for 120 players, 240 total. We typically do not fill the afternoon shotgun, however we do block this number of spots.

Instead of shotguns, we will be opening up 4 hours of tee times on both courses in the morning for member play only. We will then offer 3 hours of open times for resort guests, followed by 1 hour of blocked times for members who prefer to play in the afternoon.

Society members will be back to their normal playing benefits where they get access to the Predator course only, other than every other Wednesday when they would typically have access to the Ridge course. We are rotating society members each Wednesday on both courses to ensure that the Ridge course is not fully booked by Society play before our other membership categories.

Please see the below example:

Wednesday, July 8th
Both courses

6:30am – 10:20am Members only
(48 tee times x 4 players per time = 192 tee times)
10:30am – 1:30pm Resort guest play
1:40pm – 2:30pm Members only
(12 tee times x 4 players per time = 48 tee times)

If resort guests do not book times during their alloted 3 hours, we will allow members to access the unsold tee times. To reserve the unsold times you will need to do so within 24 hours or have approval from Brent Mann or Cameron Craig.

All resort guest tee times that are currently reserved on Wednesdays will be honored. If these reservations happen to fall inside the members scheduled times, then we will provide additional tee times for our members.

We understand that this will effect leagues and other smaller group play and are here to help your groups come up with some creative ideas to address these changes. Should leagues wish to take a break this year and postpone until 2021, then that is certainly an option too.

To book times on Wednesdays, please follow the same procedures as any other day. You will see “Lottery” blocks on both courses during the set dates. Given that our Wednesday start times change throughout the summer due to daylight, we have included the starting times below for your reference. We will offer 4 hours of blocked member times, on both courses, based off of these official start times:

Date Range Starting Tee Time
June 1 - July 12 6:30am
July 13 - August 9 7:00am
August 10 - August 31 7:30am
September 1 - September 27 8:00am
September 28 - October 1 8:30am
October 2 - October 18 9:00am

♦  WILDLIFE REMINDER
We are now entering the season where wildlife become more active. Three of our most common issues this time of year are dealing with black bears, deer and fawns and painted turtles. We recommend that you read the following material to ensure you know what to do if you run into some of your "wild" neighbours.
BABY DEER/FAWNS

BLACK BEAR

WESTERN PAINTED TURTLES
Spring is one of the most active seasons for our friendly painted turtle community. Turtles mate in early spring and females lay clutches of 6-18 (usually 12-13) leathery, white eggs from early June to early July; one clutch produced each year. Eggs are incubated for 70-80 days and hatch in late August or early September. Hatchlings remain in the nest until May or June of the following year.
Over the next few weeks weeks, please be aware of female turtles as well as hatchlings especially when you are driving in golf carts near any of our ponds. + Click here to learn more about Western Painted Turtles.
